Capcom revealed Street Fighter 6 in February with a small teaser. And now, the company has come out with a more substantial reveal of the newest installment of the long-running fighting series. It will be out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023.

Capcom’s lengthy trailer not only showed the typical 2D fighting the series is known for along with newcomer Jamie and classics like Luke, Chun-Li, and Ryu, but also some modes not typical for the genre. It shows the protagonist moving around a giant city in a way that somewhat resembles an open-world game, a mode that is called World Tour. It is a “single-player immersive story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows you to leave your own legacy within Street Fighter 6 with your player avatar.” It then also teased the Battle Hub, which looks like a hub for multiplayer, but Capcom said it will be much more than that. Details on both will come in the future.
Capcom went on the PlayStation Blog after to speak more about the game. The studio has redesigned the returning characters to fit the new era, as they all have a few new moves (that are shown through short clips on the page). Jamie, on the other hand, fights using the drunken boxing fighting style, a little like Lei Wulong from Tekken and Bo’ Rai Cho from Mortal Kombat (presumably with less farting).

The post also details the new Drive System, which is a type of meter that can be spent offensively or defensively. For examples, players can parry their opponent’s attack or use a bar to enhance their own.
And while that will mainly be for experienced fighting game players, Capcom is also adding more assists for newcomers. Users will be able to enable assist combos and button shortcuts that make combos and specials easier or significantly easier to execute.
PlayStation also released another trailer that showed off the game’s real-time commentary system. It will feature commentary from Jeremy “Vicious ” Lopez and Aru for English and Japanese, respectively, as they talk through the player’s match. More commentators will be added in the future. Capcom said this feature will add excitement to the game, but also provided explanations for the gameplay for newer players so they can better understand what is going on.
