The Quarry Delays Online Multiplayer Past June Release

The next game from the horror maestros behind Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures is right around the corner, but it won’t be launching as a complete package. Developer Supermassive Games tweeted out earlier today that The Quarry would arrive as scheduled on June 10, but it would be without its online multiplayer component. The good news is that fans won’t have to wait long, as the mode coming in a free content update currently scheduled to come by July 8.

Like its previous games, The Quarry is a narrative-based horror experience where players make choices that drastically shape the story. In total, the nine teenagers exploring Hackett’s Quarry can have their stories shake out in 186 different ways, and players don’t have to navigate the experience alone.

In the initial version releasing in June, players can enjoy couch co-op (that supports up to eight players) to make choices together, and the eventual online component can let players link up from far away and vote on what happens. The online multiplayer is different from the one seen in the team’s Dark Pictures games where both players simultaneously play a different character; only one person is playing a character in The Quarry while everyone else votes.

There’s also Movie Mode that lets players enjoy The Quarry‘s story in a linear fashion without gameplay elements like quick-time events and button mashing prompts. Players will be able to choose what kind of movie they see, like one where everyone dies or one where everyone lives, just to name a few.

The Quarry launches with most of its modes intact on June 10 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. While it’s always disappointing to see a game launch incomplete, there will still be a few different ways to play Supermassive’s next horror title when it comes out.
