Strap on your Mickey ears and start singing about Bruno, because it’s time to visit Disney Dreamlight Valley. If that first sentence didn’t immediately make you shudder, then you might just be the target audience for this new social adventure game from developer Gameloft and Disney. This title will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and PC in 2023.

Created in the mold of games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, Dreamlight Valley casts players as a traveler arriving in a Toontown-esque realm where the stars of the most popular Disney films once lived together in harmony. Players can take up residence in one of several biomes inspired by Disney and Pixar films and help everyone from Goofy to Buzz Lightyear rediscover their lost memories.
Disney Dreamlight Valley will fully launch sometime next year as a free-to-play game, but those interested in seeing the game in action before then are invited to take part in the early access period starting this summer. Those who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass or buy the Founder’s Pack will be able to play the game during its time in early access.

It’s strange that Disney is the first huge company to take a crack at the Stardew Valley formula outside of Nintendo, but isn’t too outlandish. The Disney animated canon has become its own brand in recent years in films like the new Rescue Rangers and a host of mobile-first games. Having a console game where everyone from Peter Pan to Daisy Duck can show up only makes sense, and the social-first gameplay of Dreamlight Valley certainly has the potential to find a fanbase that can appreciate that cast.
