According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Sega is in the process of developing “big-budget” reboots of the Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio franchises.

The report notes that the two titles would be the first entries in Sega’s planned Super Game initiative, which is a program the company originally announced last year. It will mark an effort to develop games that have continually recurring revenue sources, similar to what Epic Game’s smash hit Fortnite.
While it’s unclear if the two games will be 100% free-to-play when they launch, the report does note that both reboots have been in development for over a year, and that while they are planned to continue, they still could be canceled, too. The report also mentions that Sega’s Super Game initiative currently has plans for about four games, with the company also having one of its European teams working on a first-person shooter. The alleged Crazy Taxi game is also said to be out within the next two to three years.
Originally released in 1999 in arcades, Crazy Taxi became something of a fan-favorite game for Sega, and was ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 where it become an incredibly popular game. A sequel and a third title came out in 2001 and 2002, respectively. The last Crazy Taxi title, Crazy Taxi Tycoon, was released in 2017 on mobile, and was a top-down business management simulator.

Jet Seat Radio was originally released in 2000 and became a cult classic after its release, with fans loving the anti-establishment themes and cel-shaded art direction, the latter of which made it the first game to have such a style. A sequel to the game, Jet Set Future, was released in 2002, and characters from the series continue to show up in games to this day, like the main character Beat appearing in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania.
