The Witcher 3 PS5, Xbox Series X|S Versions Delayed

The Witcher 3 PS5, Xbox Series X|S Versions Have Been Delayed Yet Again

Cyberpunk 2077 got its much-needed current-gen upgrade in February 2022. The Witcher 3‘s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (and technically PC) upgrades were slated to come out just after in Q2 2022 after both of which saw a delay. However, CD Projekt Red announced that it was pushing the beefed-up ports even further and taking things into its own hands.

In a tweet on the game’s official Twitter account, the studio revealed that it is delaying the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of The Witcher 3 “until further notice” with no prospective release window. CD Projekt Red is also “evaluating the scope of work to be done” and moving the development to its own internal studios. Saber Interactive, the team behind the Nintendo Switch port, was previously contracted to do these versions and has seemingly been taken off the project. It’s unclear why Saber was presumably kicked off, but CD Projekt Red is not in a position for bad press or poorly optimized games, given the cataclysmic launch of Cyberpunk 2077.

The second tweet in the thread ended with a promise to update users as soon as the situation allows. However, given the indefinite delay, it may take some time to get more information out of CD Projekt Red. The developer has plenty of time, though, given that the recently announced The Witcher 4 probably won’t be out for years to come.

The enhanced editions of The Witcher 3 will still be free to anyone who owns the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions. It’ll have a suite of visual and technical upgrades like faster loading and ray tracing along with some items from the Witcher series on Netflix.
