Video games based on popular anime are typically the calling card of Bandai Namco, but the interactive adaption of Overlord goes in a different direction. Rather than the typical arena fighting game, Overlord: Escape From Nazarick offers fans a chance to explore the show’s world in an expansive 2D search action platformer. And while summer was the previous release window, a new trailer has revealed the exact Escape From Nazarick release date: June 16 for both the PC and Nintendo Switch.

Created under the supervision of original creator Kugane Maruyama, players should feel right at home stepping into the shoes of Clementine and fighting off the forces of the Supreme Being, Ainz Ooal Gown. The game’s Steam page showcases the old-school action-adventure gameplay on offer and goes a bit more into how the game fits into the overall Overlord universe. Instead of adapting scenes from the anime, Escape From Nazarick is a side story that looks like it will appeal to current fans, anime newcomers, and fans of Castlevania looking for another adventure to embark on.

Overlord first hit the anime scene in 2015 as an adaption of Kugane Maruyama’s popular light novel. The series takes place in the year 2126 and focuses on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game called YGGDRASIL. As the servers shut down, the strongest player in the game, Momonga, stays logged in and gets transported to a different reality. Non-playable characters gain sentience and Momonga uses his ridiculous power to figure out what happened while also looking for anyone else from the real world.
