After nearly a decade without a new title, Crytek has finally announced Crysis 4. However, it was a vague reveal with only a teaser trailer; no platforms or release dates were detailed.
Even its title is not final. Crytek spoke about the upcoming sequel on its website and was rather candid about where the game is. Crytek CEO Avni Yerli said the game was in the “early stages of development” and it will “be a while,” but the team wanted to reveal the game since it is “so hyped for the future.” Yerli didn’t give a time frame of when further details would arrive. However, he did state that Crytek is listening to its community and will make sure that the game will live up to expectations. And, as was the case with Blizzard’s survival game, he put a call out for those who want to help develop the title.

The trailer didn’t yield more information either and was more of a fancy buildup to the number “4.” Pausing at around 14 seconds does show the iconic CryNet Nanosuit helmet. And even though it didn’t list platforms, Yerli revealed that it was a “truly next-gen shooter,” strongly implying that it would be skipping out on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and likely only hit newer hardware like the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and, of course, PC.
Crytek has been building up to this by releasing Crysis remasters over the past few years. The developer released a remaster of the first game in October 2020 and then followed up with its two sequels in October 2021. They’re either $29.99 each or $49.99 as one bundle.

The Crysis series is renowned for its technical prowess and the first two games were well-received first-person shooters, releasing in 2007 and 2011, respectively. The third entry came out in 2013, but was not as beloved as its two predecessors. It unceremoniously put the series on hold as Electronic Arts said that it, along with Dead Space 3, did not meet expectations. Yerli said it was Crytek’s “masterpiece,” but noted that fatigue with the PS3 and Xbox 360 may have hurt the title.
