Dauntless PS5 & XSX|S Versions Announced, Includes Several Upgrades

The free-to-play action role-playing game Dauntless is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 2. These upgrades will contain a handful of huge improvements for fans playing on the current generation consoles and are set to launch alongside the game’s Call to Arms update.

The native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the RPG will obviously feature some major graphical improvements and load times that are, according to Phoenix Labs, 90% faster. According to the game’s post detailing the news, Dauntless on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will support dynamic 4K resolutions targeting 60 frames per second, and will also feature enhanced environmental textures like upgraded trees, grass, and water. Some of these new visual flourishes can be seen in the comparison shots in the trailer. The Xbox Series S version, on the other hand, will target 1440p at 60 frames per second.

“We’ve also got higher-quality lighting and materials, new volumetric fog, and improved visual effects across the game. The Shattered Isles have never looked so good!” said Josh Hood, associate producer at Phoenix Labs, in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

Dauntless‘ PS5 version will have 3D audio as well as DualSense support, with the controller’s trigger resistance now appropriately expressing the character’s stamina and empowered Repeater ammo in the game. Radio callouts will also be pumped out through the controller’s speaker. The PS5 port will also be getting a platinum trophy; an upgrade from the PS4 version that only has five bronzes, three silvers, and one gold trophy. This platinum is just part of the 36 new trophies and achievements coming to the game that cover content that has been added since its 2019 launch. However, while it is possible, it’s unlikely that the PS4 version will get a platinum trophy with these other trophies, too.

Players who have already been playing Dauntless on the PlayStation 4 will see their progress carry over automatically to the PS5 version of the game. Xbox users won’t have to do much to see the upgrade thanks to Smart Delivery. Phoenix Labs also noted that players will be able to jump between systems with cross-play and cross-save functionality. This applies to “all supported platforms,” which includes these two PlayStation versions as well as the Xbox One. Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch, meaning players can play with anyone from any system and jump from system to system and keep their progress as well.

The Call to Arms content update coming on the same day is set to add the new Behemoth Sahvyt, as well as gameplay refreshes for the Chain Blades weapon, a new Krolachi Warlords Hunt Pass, more quests and challenges, and other improvements to the game.
