Call of Duty: Vanguard will feature a franchise-first crossover when it comes to the fan-favorite Zombies mode. A new trailer for the mode released on Thursday highlights just how the stories will connect.

In the brand new reveal trailer for the games Zombies mode, we’re introduced to the main mission in this chapter of the mode’s ongoing story, “Der Anfang.” This addition to the overarching Zombies narrative ties into the Dark Aether storyline that initially began in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. For the first time, a new Call of Duty game will continue the story of its predecessor, with Treyarch Games teaming up with Sledgehammer Games and making it easier for regular fans of the series to dive right back in and experience an overarching narrative.
Alongside the trailer, a new blog post on Call of Duty’s website also hinted at some of the new enhancements coming to the Zombies mode. This includes things like a brand new “Sacrificial Heart” loot item that allows players to choose from a variety of upgrades that randomize each time they use it, as well as faster transportation via portals to drop players right into the fight.

Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Vanguard takes players back to the era of World War II, with the game set to highlight various special force soldiers as they face an emerging threat at the end of the war. According to a blog post when the game was announced, Vanguard’s campaign features four major theaters of war, an online Multiplayer mode that has 20 maps available at launch, and some major changes to the Warzone experience.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to release on November 5, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
