The PlayStation 5’s standard, disc-based edition is now officially a profitable console for Sony, the company confirmed during a recent earnings briefing.

In the briefing (via Bloomberg), Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki confirmed the news, but did note that the $400 digital edition of the PS5 is still being sold for a loss than what it costs Sony to manufacture, but that the losses from that console are still being offset by margin-rich products like PlayStation peripherals and the PS4.
Sony also noted that PlayStation Plus subscribers have declined to 46.3 million from 47.6 million in the previous quarter, with monthly active users dropping from 109 million to 104 million. The company is still keeping its goal of selling over 14.8 million PS5 units this fiscal year, though, which seems to indicate they think the current sales of consoles is enough to get them to that goal. Sony confirmed in late July that it had already sold 10 million PS5 consoles.

While the PlayStation 5 has been one of the hardest consoles to find since its launch, it seems like all things point to it being one of the biggest launches for Sony in its history. As more and more consoles become available thanks to increases in production, Sony continues to project a big year for itself and the console.
