We’ll have a full review for you some time next week, suffice to say Squadrons delivers an immersive combat experience in vein of 1998’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, albeit with better graphics. Controls are actually quite fluid and allow the user to easily slow down and accelerate their ship during intense dogfights; and redistribute power to various systems, i.e., the lasers, shields, and thrusters. The levels are rather simplistic and consist mainly of flying to an area, fighting a barrage of x-wings or tie fighters, depending on your side, whilst avoiding laser fire from star destroyers and other large craft.
All in all, it’s very much a Star Wars game filled with diverse characters and set amidst the backdrop of that galaxy far, far away. Our opinion might change as the game progresses, but so far we think it’s worth the relatively cheap $40 price tag!
