Scary Movie 3 was the top-selling DVD and rental title its debut week on home video. The Dimension Films comedy has generated an estimated $10.7 million in gross consumer rental spending after five days in release.
Friends: The Series Finale was the third-best-selling DVD during its first week on store shelves, making it the best chart debut ever for a TV-to-DVD release. Estimates place the “Friends” finale at more than 1.5 million DVD units sold during its first five days on store shelves.
Big Fish was the second top choice at rental stores, generating an estimated $9.5 million in consumer rental spending for the week ending May 16, for a 19-day rental haul of $35.8 million. “Fish” dipped two places to No. 6 on the DVD sales chart.
The Last Samurai dipped from the top spot in national DVD sales to No. 2 during its second week. Warner Home Video’s actioner was the third-best-renting title, generating an estimated $8.61 million for the same frame, for a 12-day total of $21.6 million.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was the No. 5 rental, generating an estimated $7.15 million, for a 26-day haul of $46.1 million. The seafaring actioner slipped one place to No. 7 on the DVD sales chart.
The Cooler has become a dark horse breakout at rental stores, generating an estimated $7.4 million, for a 19-day collect of more than $23 million. That represents about 290% of the film’s theatrical box office.
