Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s “101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition” easily topped the national DVD sales chart for the week ending March 9.
Fox’s Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which grossed $31.8 million in theaters, was a distant second on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart.
The two new releases bumped the previous week’s top seller, Paramount’s Beowulf, to No. 3, while another new release from Paramount, Into the Wild, debuted at No. 4.
In rental stores, where demand for family product generally isn’t as strong as it is in stores where videos are primarily sold, Beowulf remained at No. 1 for the second consecutive week. After two weeks, the fantasy has generated $19.9 million in rental revenue, or nearly 25% of its theatrical gross.
“Wild” debuted at No. 2 on the rental chart, earning an estimated $8.8 million, about half as much as it made in theaters.
Sony’s 30 Days of Night remained the No. 1 Blu-ray Disc seller.
