20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Live Free or Die Hard proved a die-hard winner on the national sales and rental charts for the week ending Dec. 2.
For the second consecutive week, “Die Hard” finished in the top spot on Nielsen VideoScan’s First Alert sales chart and Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart, with $10.26 million in rental revenue.
Paramount/DreamWorks’ Shrek the Third held on to the No. 2 spot on the sales chart and managed to beat last week’s No. 2 rental, New Line’s Hairspray, to take the second spot on the rental chart as well.
Topping the new releases was Fox’s Waitress, which debuted at No. 3 on the rental chart with $6.81 million and at No. 9 on the sales chart. Another new release, Universal’s Mr. Bean’s Holiday, finished at No. 9 on the rental chart and at No. 13 on the sales chart.
On the high-definition disc charts, “Die Hard” came out on top for Blu-ray Disc, and “Planet Earth: The Complete Collection,” from Warner Home Video, made a return to the top of the HD DVD chart. “Die Hard” is available only on Blu-ray.
