The Lion King 1 1/2 Sells 3 Million Since Tuesday

Since its Tuesday release, Walt Disney Pictures’ The Lion King 1 1/2 has sold over 3 million combined DVD/VHS units in North America, it was announced today by Bob Chapek, President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Based on this sales figure alone, The Lion King 1 1/2 is now positioned to be the best-selling direct-to-video DVD of all time.

“Disney has traditionally dominated the direct-to-video industry, so it is no surprise that ‘The Lion King 1 1/2’ will continue to build upon that success,” said Bob Chapek, President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment. “With the tremendous support by both retail and consumers, these incredible sales figures reinforce the admiration that audiences have for this wonderful franchise and for our Disney Video Premiere movies in general.”

“To see the adventure of ‘The Lion King’ re-told by sidekicks Timon (voiced by Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (voiced by Ernie Sabella) in ‘The Lion King 1 1/2’ is just hilarious,” said Don Hahn, original producer of “The Lion King.” “It’s fantastic to see the tradition of ‘The Lion King’ continue with such a great movie.”

The two-disc Disney DVD The Lion King 1 1/2 includes a whole new slate of bonus fun starring the original voice talent, games for all ages, theme-park-ride style virtual safari, music video, behind-the-scenes tours and much more. This hilarious, all-new animated movie starring Timon and his windy pal Pumbaa is available on DVD for $29.99 (S.R.P.) and on VHS for $24.99 (S.R.P.).
