Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Premonition, which earned $47.9 million in theaters, captured the top spot on the national home video sales and rental charts during its first week in stores.
The film easily snagged the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ending July 22, handily beating the 20th Century Fox horror sequel The Hills Have Eyes 2, which also landed on video last week after grossing just $20.8 million at the box office.
Premonition also topped Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the same week, generating an estimated $7.3 million in rental revenue, compared with $4.7 million for “Eyes 2,” which bowed at No. 2.
The previous week’s top seller, New Line’s The Last Mimzy, dropped to No. 4 on First Alert in its second week in stores, with Paramount’s Shooter at No. 3.
On the high-definition disc charts, Premonition was the top Blu-ray Disc seller for the week, while “Planet Earth: The Complete Collection” was the No. 1 HD DVD seller.
