Writer/director Mark Steven Johnson’s Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, blasted its way to the top of the national DVD sales and rental charts, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Two other new releases, the Tyler Perry comedy Daddy’s Little Girls and the spy thriller Breach, took the next two spots on Nielsen VideoScan’s First Alert sales chart for the week ending June 17.
Incumbent DVD champ Norbit fell to No. 4 in its second week, with the BBC’s hot-selling “Planet Earth — The Complete Collection” soaring 10 places to No. 5 nearly two months after its release.
In rental stores, Ghost Rider was the top pick, pulling in an estimated $8.9 million in revenue to top Home Media Magazine’s DVD rental chart.
Breach debuted at No. 2, with $5.7 million, while Daddy’s Little Girls bowed at No. 4 with $4.1 million. Norbit fell to No. 3, pulling in an additional $4.2 million.
Ghost Rider was the No. 1 Blu-ray Disc seller, while “Planet Earth” continued its long reign as the top HD DVD seller.
