According to Al Jazeera, Roger Federer played his last match alongside his longtime friend and rival Rafael Nadal. The doubles match took place in the O2 Arena in London on September 23, 2022, during the Laver Cup. Afterward, the then-41-year-old announced retirement from his 24-year-long professional tennis career, stated an Olympics report. The match was Federer’s first since his quarterfinal loss at Wimbledon in July 2021 and a third surgery on his right knee.

Federer and Nadal were part of Team Europe and played against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. A year later, at the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, Canada, Federer recalled his “beautiful” farewell during a sit-down interview with former American tennis player Jim Courier, reported CNN.

Roger Federer shared that his last tennis match and the end of his professional career were “perfect” and “emotional.” Additionally, he claimed that he “misses everything about the game.” The retired star said that the “exciting moments spent on court, the break points saved, winning match points, holding up trophies, walking past fans, taking selfies” are some things he misses the most about the sport.

The match was great, I couldn’t be happier. It’s been wonderful.”

In an interview with People Magazine, Roger Federer claimed that he has taken up more dad duties after his last match and retirement.
