Celine Dion Neurological Condition: What Does Prime Video Documentary Trailer Reveal?

Prime Video dropped the I Am: Celine Dion documentary’s trailer, which focuses on the singer’s neurological condition. According to Variety, the documentary delves into Dion’s Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis. The “life-altering” and incurable disorder causes muscle spasms, per People Magazine. The singer first revealed the diagnosis in an Instagram video, claiming how the illness affects “every aspect of my daily life. Sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords,” she added in the since-deleted video.

I Am Celine Dion is a work of Amazon MGM Studios, Vermilion Films production, Sony Music Vision, and Sony Music Entertainment Canada. Prime Video also revealed that the documentary will be available to stream on the platform on June 25, 2025.

What does Celine Dion say about her neurological condition in the documentary trailer?

Variety reported that the documentary trailer features one-on-one interviews with the singer as she talks about her neurological condition. Additionally, the trailer comprises archival footage and behind-the-scenes videos from the singer’s career. The trailer shows the singer in a hospital where she underwent treatment. In other scenes, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer can be seen in tears as she recalls her journey.

One scene captures Dion breaking down into tears as she discusses her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis. She says, “It’s not hard to do a show, you know. It’s hard to cancel a show.” She stated that she has been “working hard everyday” but admitted that “it’s been a struggle” and how much she misses singing and “the people.” The singer promises that “if I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. I won’t stop.”

The outlet stated that Celine Dion had previously opened up about her neurological condition while announcing the documentary. She revealed how the “last couple of years has been such a challenge for me.” This includes her journey as she discovers her condition and learns “how to live with and manage it.” The 56-year-old added that while she has managed to live with her condition, she refuses “to let it define me.”

The singer continued, “As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans.” She claimed during this absence, “I decided I wanted to document this part of my life to help others who share this diagnosis.”

Previously, Variety reported that I Am: Celine Dion is not just “an expansive look at the life and times” of the singer. The documentary instead captures “a snapshot of a pivotal time in her career,” spanning “about a year.” It shows the singer’s “battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects the brain and the spinal cord.” The outlet further noted, “In the case of Dion, the illness halted her livelihood and ability to perform.”

Over her decades-long music career, Celine Dion has won five Grammy Awards. She is most renowned for singing the classic track “My Heart Will Go On” in James Cameron’s Titanic. Her Beauty and the Beast song also received an Academy Award nomination. The singer was present at the 2024 Grammy’s, making it her first public appearance since the Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis.

I Am: Celine Dion will stream on Prime Video on June 25, 2024.
