Prime Video is releasing a new documentary titled Kids Are Growing Up, which will delve into the life and career of Australian rapper-singer The Kid Laroi. According to Deadline, the documentary’s director and producer is Grammy nominee Michael D. Ratner. Kids Are Growing Up will be available to stream on February 29, 2024.
Also known as Charlton Howard, The Kid Laroi’s beginnings were humble, but it didn’t take him long to sell out arenas. Although he gradually became successful, it came with a cost. He struggled with his mental health, love life, and adulthood. Furthermore, the untimely passing of The Kid Laroi’s mentor, Juice WRLD, affected him. The rapper died of an accidental oxycodone and codeine overdose at the age of 21.
As per Variety, the upcoming documentary will also feature interviews with his peers and established industry names such as Post Malone, Justin Bieber, and more. The Kid Laroi also extended his gratitude towards the documentary’s producers and Amazon MGM Studios.
He stated, “Thank you to the incredible teams at OBB Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios for their support in sharing my story. I can’t wait for audiences to see this behind-the-scenes portrayal of my journey. Which perfectly encapsulates some of the most rewarding and challenging years of my life and career so far.”
The Kid Laroi was born on August 17, 2003, to Nick Howard and Sloane Howard in Waterloo, New South Wales, Australia. His father is a music producer, while his mother was a record label founder, music executive, and talent manager.
The Kid Laroi recalled Juice WRLD’s final moments in Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss
After Juice WRLD’s passing, HBO released a documentary titled Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss, which was a part of the HBO Max documentary series Music Box. In the project, The Kid Laroi spoke candidly about the passing of his mentor.
The Kid Laroi said, “I remember walking off [the plane], and seeing through the window all the police and s*it. They said, ‘Everybody get your passports out.’ So I’m sitting down and Juice is sitting across from me… I kind of froze, I didn’t really know what I could do to help him. So we’re all just sitting there panicking.”
He further stated, “At first, we just thought he was having a seizure, but then blood started coming out of his mouth and his nose. Then, everybody obviously started freaking out way more. Then the police came over and handcuffed us all in a line and said, ‘Get the f*ck away from him…’ They’re telling Ally he’s fine, but we’re all looking like, ‘Bro, he’s bleeding.'”
Apart from Laroi, Juice WRLD’s girlfriend, Ally, was also present on the plane when he died. Reports suggest that marijuana-filled bags, bottles of prescription cough syrup, and weapons were all found on the private plane.
As for The Kid Laroi’s discography, the singer has released one mixtape, one full-length album, one EP, and 28 singles. The upcoming documentary will also feature the artist’s new song.
