The upcoming season of the Swedish teen drama series Young Royals will be its third and final season. The Netflix project has been on the receiving end of praise from both fans and critics. People who adored the show are heartbroken that it’s ending. However, on the bright side, the OTT platform will release a Young Royals documentary along with the series finale.
The series finale of Young Royals will be released on March 18, 2024. Interestingly, Young Royals: Forever will also be released on the very same day. According to UPI, the documentary will delve into the behind-the-scenes look during the production of Young Royals season 3. In the trailer for the project, the cast members talk about the end of the beloved show.
Omar Rudberg jokingly says, “I think we should make a Young Royals movie in five years. Or in two years.” To which Edvin Ryding adds, “A Young Royals class reunion.” On the show, Ryding plays Prince Wilhelm “Wille” of Sweden while Rudberg plays Simon Eriksson.
According to Tudum by Netflix, the upcoming season of Young Royals is described by Phillipe Thao as “The time will soon come to stroll through the halls of Hillerska one last semester: Young Royals is officially returning for a third and final season. Since we first met Simon (Omar Rudberg) and Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) in 2021, things haven’t always been easy for the schoolboy lovers.”
It further states, “From secrets to sex tape scandals, their relationship has been repeatedly put to the test. Season 2 was no exception, with Simon and Wilhelm dealing with the aftermath of their leaked tape (and that shocking twist in the finale).”
Young Royals head writer and co-creator Lisa Ambjörn thankful to finish the story the way she intended
According to Tudum by Netflix, Young Royals’ head writer and co-creator Lisa Ambjörn stated that fans will finally learn about the fate of the beloved characters. She stated, “I’ve always imagined Young Royals being told in three parts. And because of the fans’ dedication to our story, we get to tell the last one.
She further stated, “The ending has been clear to me from the start and I’m so thankful and honored to get to finish this saga as intended.”
In March 2023, Troy Murphy interviewed Omar Rudberg, who plays Simon Eriksson on Young Royals. Interestingly, alongside acting, the 25-year-old is a gifted singer. In 2022, he released his first solo album titled OMR, which was well-received by fans. In the interview, Rudberg stated that he was only ten years old when he began singing.
He said, “I started when I was 10 years old. Singing at small little talent shows at the malls around in Stockholm and at parks. Then my mom took me to, long story short, I did the Sweden’s Got Talent TV program. Then I kept on doing these talent shows. And then I got discovered on YouTube. Because my mom always posted everything that I did on stage on YouTube. I got discovered and then I came into this. I was one of the members in this new Swedish pop boy band when I was 14.”
Young Royals premiered on 1 July 2021. Its creators are Lisa Ambjörn, Lars Beckung, and Camilla Holter.
