A new documentary showcasing Roger Federer‘s achievements will come out on Prime Video soon. Directed by Asif Kapadia, this project will shed light on the tennis legend’s last 12 days as a professional sportsman. Lafcadia Productions produce the upcoming Roger Federer documentary.
According to Variety, the upcoming project does not have a title as of now. However, Prime Video describes it as “an intimate follow-along through the final 12 days of Roger Federer’s illustrious career. Originally a home video never intended for public viewing, the film captures Federer at his most vulnerable and candid self, as he says goodbye to a game and the fans that shaped his life for the last two decades.” Moreover, the documentary will feature interviews with his friends and longtime rivals like Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Roger Federer retired from the sport in September 2022. According to AP News, after retiring, he stated, “It’s been a perfect journey. I would do it all over again.” The tennis player also added, “It’s been a wonderful day. I told the guys I’m happy; I’m not sad. I enjoyed tying my shoes one more time. Everything was the last time.”
Roger Federer faced several injuries throughout his career. His last singles match was in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in July 2021, after which he was eliminated from the tournament. Federer soon underwent knee surgery, concluding that he wasn’t fit to continue his professional career.
In a conversation with AP News, he stated, “For me, just personally, (it was) sad in the first moment, when I came to the conclusion it’s the best decision. I kind of held it in at first, then fought it off. But I could feel the pain.”
Which one was Roger Federer’s last match?
Even though Federer’s last singles match with Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon in 2021, the Laver Cup was his last ATP event. He partnered with his longtime rival and friend Rafael Nadal in this tournament to take on Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Unfortunately, the duo suffered a three-set loss.
As for Federer’s upcoming documentary, he commented on the upcoming untitled project. As per Variety, he said that he used to shy away from the media during his prime years, but he is now happy to partner with Prime Video to tell his story to the world.
He stated, “Initially, the idea was to capture the final moments of my professional tennis career so that I could have it later on to show my family and friends. During my career, I tended to shy away from having cameras around me and my family, especially during important moments. But I didn’t see the harm in shooting this as it was never intended for the public.”
He concluded by saying, “However, we captured so many powerful moments, and it transformed into a deeply personal journey. I am happy to be partnering with Prime Video because of their vast global reach and significant presence in the film industry. This ensures that the story of my final days in tennis will resonate with both tennis enthusiasts and broader audiences worldwide.”
Throughout his career, the tennis icon has won 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles. In addition, he has a record of eight Wimbledon wins.
