Reports suggest that a documentary showcasing Canadian singer Céline Dion has been acquired by Amazon MGM. Most importantly, this project will delve into her battle with her rare neurological disorder, Stiff Person Syndrome. This condition affects a person’s brain and spinal cord and has prevented the singer’s ability to perform.
Céline Dion married her former manager in 1994 and was with him until his passing in 2016. Interestingly, People Magazine reported that the duo began working together when the singer was only 12 years old. They fell in love when Dion turned 19, however, they kept their relationship a secret for several years.
In 1993, the couple got engaged and eventually married the following year. They have three children together: son René-Charles (born in 2001) and twin sons Nelson and Eddy (born in 2010). Throughout his life, Angélil was diagnosed with Cancer thrice. Furthermore, Céline Dion took time away from her career to look after her husband.
In 2021, six years after Angélil’s passing, Dion revealed that she still felt her husband’s presence in her daily life. According to TODAY, she stated, “Losing my husband, for my kids to lose their father, it was quite something. I feel like René has given me so much through the years and still today. I see my kids – I look at them — we live with him. We still live with him. He’s part of our lives every day, so I have to say that I feel very, very strong.”
When did Celine Dion and René Angélil meet?
Celine Dion and René Angélil met in 1980 during the recording of her first original song titled “Ce n’était qu’un rêve”. According to People Magazine, one of Dion’s brothers found Angélil’s name on the back of Ginette Reno’s album and sent the recording to him. At the time, Dion was 12 while her future husband was 38 years old. Dion stated that she knew she had impressed Angélil when she saw him crying. She said, “While I was singing he started to cry. I knew then I had done a good job.”
In an interview with TODAY, Celine Dion revealed that the thought of dating doesn’t particularly cross her mind. She stated, “I don’t date. I’m not ready to date. I’m very lucky and happy to have so many people in my surroundings to make me — they make me laugh.”
In the same interview, the singer said that her late husband sent a touching text message before his passing. She stated, “He called me before a show and give me a little message: ‘I love you. And when I came home that night, it was very, very late …”
She further stated, “And I didn’t want to come and wake him up to give him a kiss, to wake him up, and then he can’t find sleep again. And the next morning, he was gone. So, we talked before. And he sent me a text message. So we said goodbye.”
In addition, she even revealed that she saved her husband’s message and still looks at it from time to time. However, she is at peace now because she knows that Angélil isn’t suffering anymore. She said, “But I am at peace because I know that he doesn’t suffer. “And I know that, right now, the courage that I have, he has given it to me all my life.”
Angélil died on January 14, 2016, after a long battle with throat cancer.
