Paramount+ recently released a documentary titled JUNE, that showcased the illustrious life and career of late country icon, June Carter Cash. This project premiered in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Apart from narrating her story, JUNE also featured interviews with popular singers such as Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson.
June Carter Cash was married thrice. First, to country singer Carl Smith and then to Edwin “Rip” Nix. However, her third and last marriage was to the legendary, Johnny Cash. According to CMT, the two musicians tied the knot on March 1, 1968. Furthermore, Johnny had proposed to June less than two weeks before their wedding.

June Carter Cash had three children in total. However, with Johnny, she had a son named John Carter Cash, who is currently a country singer-songwriter and musician.
June Carter Cash passed away on May 15, 2003, at the age of 73. According to CBS News, she had heart valve replacement surgery on May 7, 2003, and succumbed to its complications. At the time of her death, her husband of 35 years, Johnny Cash, and her family members were beside her.
In his 1997 autobiography, Johnny Cash revealed how his beloved wife stuck by his side when he was abusing amphetamine. He wrote, “June said she knew me – knew the kernel of me, deep inside, beneath the drugs and deceit and despair and anger and selfishness, and knew my loneliness.”
He further wrote, “She said she could help me … If she found my pills, she flushed them down the toilet. And find them she did; she searched for them, relentlessly.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2000, June recalled the time she began falling for her future husband. She stated, “I never talked about how I fell in love with John. It was not a convenient time for me to fall in love with him, and it wasn’t a convenient time for him to fall in love with me.”
June further said, “One morning, about four o’clock, I was driving my car just about as fast as I could… I was miserable, and it all came to me: ‘I’m falling in love with somebody I have no right to fall in love with’… I thought, ‘I can’t fall in love with this man, but it’s just like a ring of fire.”
