Everything began in 2012 when the newly single Dave Kroupa moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Since he longed for new connections, he created an online dating profile, which led to him meeting a single mother and animal lover named Liz Golyar. Even though this couple instantly hit it off, Kroupa informed Golyar that he wanted to keep things casual. Furthermore, the latter was also okay with Kroupa’s decision.

Eventually, Dave Kroupa ended up meeting yet another single mother named Cari Farver after she walked into the former’s car repair shop. The two hit it off instantly and began spending more time together. One fine day, Farver miraculously disappeared in thin air. However, two and a half years later, officials discovered that Liz Golyar murdered her in the year, 2012.

According to Tudum by Netflix, the court charged Liz Golyar with the first-degree murder of Cari Farver.

According to the official trailer for Lover Stalker Killer on YouTube, its synopsis reads, “Dave was recently out of a long-term relationship and eager to restart his romantic life, so he did what most people do: He tried online dating. Liz and Cari were two of his most promising connections, both single moms with winning personalities who helped bring him out of his shell in different ways.”

It further reads, “It should have been an opportunity for this hard-working, devoted dad to enjoy a second chance at casual romance, but it turned into a twisted love triangle, putting Dave and everyone he cared about at risk.”

Lover Stalker Killer on Netflix: Where Is Liz Golyar Now?

According to Distractify, Liz Golyar is currently serving life imprisonment without the possibility of parole at the Nebraska Correctional Facility for Women.

After Cari’s disappearance, Kroupa kept receiving texts from her. However, these texts were threatening, claiming that he had destroyed her life. Furthermore, Golyar too received similar texts. Cari also informed her mother that she moved to Kansas and would discuss picking up her 14-year-old son. Cari’s mother, Nancy Raney, sensed something seriously out of place and alerted the cops. Her suspicion only grew after her daughter missed birthdays, Thanksgiving, and many other events.

By 2015, nobody knew of Cari Farver’s whereabouts. Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office investigators Ryan Avis and Sergeant Jim Doty finally volunteered to look into this case, and the duo made a shocking discovery. Golyar murdered Farver in 2012 and was posing as the latter since she held onto the victim’s phone.

KETV reported that after Golyar’s sentencing, Cari’s mother, Nancy Raney, burst into tears. Raney stated, “It’s a wonderful feeling to get that out, that she did not leave. All of them worked so hard to come to this conclusion, I’m just so thankful. It’s been horrid, never knowing whether she was really out there or not.”

Douglas County Attorney Brenda Beadle, the case’s prosecutor, stated, “This was by far the most difficult case I’ve ever tried. Most homicides are dark. This one was … bizarre to the point where it would take some convincing to make somebody believe that it actually happened.”

Cari Farver was 37 years old at the time of her passing.
