Netflix is going to release a four-part documentary titled Robbie Williams on their steamer on November 8, 2023. Directed by Joe Pearlman, this series will showcase the life, struggles, relationships, and career of the celebrated English singer and songwriter, Robbie Williams. His career kickstarted in 1990 however, he is still releasing albums to this day. Williams is currently aged 49.
The official synopsis of Netflix’s Robbie Williams reads,
“ROBBIE WILLIAMS… A four-part documentary series which features up to 30 years of never-before-seen archive footage behind the star, coming only to Netflix.”
Apart from being directed by an EMMY and BAFTA nominee, it’s produced by Ridley Scott Associates. Furthermore, its executive producer is the Grammy award-winning director, Asif Kapadia.
Robbie Williams’s life and career in brief
Robbie Williams was born on 13 February 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. His parents were Peter and Janet. Robbie’s father owned a pub before he received a license at the Port Vale FC Social Club. As a young boy, he attended St Margaret Ward Catholic School in Tunstall. However, at the ripe age of 16, he joined the Manchester-based pop group, Take That.
From the year 1990 to 1995, he was one of the most prominent members of this pop group. During this stint, Take That released three albums: Take That & Party, Everything Changes, and Nobody Else. After quitting the group in 1995, he decided to focus on his solo career. In 1997, he released his debut album, Life thru a Lens. One of his most famous tracks titled Angels is from this very album.
In the year 1998, Williams released his second album and his career reached the next level. This new album titled I’ve Been Expecting You had evergreen tracks like Millennium and She’s the One. Both songs furthermore went on to become his first number-one singles. Throughout his career, he has released 14 albums in total out of which, 13 of them have reached No. 1 in the UK. Seven songs of his went on to reach No. 1 in the UK.
The top 100 biggest-selling albums in the UK include six of his albums. According to Guinness World Records, in 2006 he sold 1.6 million tickets in a single day during one of his tours. He has won the Brit Awards a whopping 18 times and the Best British Male Artist award four times.
Robbie Williams rejoined Take That in the year 2010, 15 years after his first stint with the pop group. He gave vocals in their 2010 album titled Progress and even performed with them during the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. Although he is currently still a member of the group, he did not feature in their newer albums. Neither did he accompany them on tours. Instead, he has been focusing on his solo career.
Williams began dating American actress Ayda Field in 2006 and eventually married her in 2010. The couple has four children, two daughters and two sons. He is even one of the wealthiest individuals in the British music industry.
