Exclusive Metal Hurlant Preview Showcases Mark Waid & Jean-Michel Ponzio’s Contribution

ComingSoon can exclusively reveal a preview of Mark Waid and Jean-Michel Ponzio’s contribution to HumanoidsMetal Hurlant.

Founded by Mœbius, Philippe Druillet, and Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Metal Hurlant originally debuted 50 years ago as a French publication. Metal Hurlant is now coming to English as a quarterly anthology that is being published by Humanoids.

“Each volume of Metal Hurlant will be a massive 272+page literary experience curated to theme with all-new content from today’s best and brightest comics creators from all corners of the world, alongside insightful and biting cultural reportage, and featuring classic stories from the masters of the original run, including long out-of-print short stories from Mœbius,” a description of the project reads.

One of the new stories featured in the first year of the Metal Hurlant anthology is “Alter,” which comes from writer Mark Waid and artist Jean-Michel Ponzio. Check out an exclusive preview of the story below:

Other highlights included in the first year of Metal Hurlant include “Clean and Clear” by Brian Michael Bendis and Jacob Edgar, “In Every Dream Home a Heartache” by Matt Fraction and Afif Khaled, “The Rite” by Elie Huault, “Peppermint Wendy” by Miran Kim, “Retrograde” by Karla Pacheco and Sagar Fornies,” “Soldiers of Light” by Simon Roy, “The Laws of Physics” by Matthew Sheean, “Hot Ground,” by Shofela ‘Shof’ and Shobo Coker, “Red Planet Tomatoes” by James Stokoe, “A New Dawn” by Jake Thomas and Jorg de Vos, “Nightmare Motel” by Elene Usdin, and “The Naked King” by Fabien Vehlmann and Lionel ‘Alfred’ Papagalli.

Meanwhile, the stories that have either never been published in English before or have been out-of-print for decades that will be showcased in the first year of Metal Hurlantinclude contributions from Mœbius, Philippe Druillet, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Robert Crumb, Caza, Nicole Claveloux, Michio Hisauchi, Angus McKie, Jean-Claude Mézières, Chantal Montellier, and Trina Robbins.

Metal Hurlant will launch in 2025 with a spring issue. It will be available through newsstands, comic book shops, book stores, by subscription, and via the Kickstarter campaign.
