On June 20, 2024, the costume drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue, released episode 35. Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) previously outwitted the Princess and Shen Yurong. Episode 35 focuses on the princess’ alleged pregnancy.
In this episode, Xue Zhang, Fang Fei’s brother, approves of Fang Fei and Xiao Heng’s relationship. Xiao Heng took Zhang under his wing and has been treating his crippling leg. It warms Fang Fei’s heart to see Duke Su look after her brother.
Meanwhile, Princess Wanning falls severely ill. She loses her appetite and throws up. After a thorough checkup, the imperial physician reveals that Wanning is pregnant.
Wanning had lost her ability to conceive after enduring injuries that led to multiple miscarriages. She is in a quandary about whether to have the child or not, as she might never conceive again. To keep her secret from the public, she kills the physician.
The Double episode 35: How does Wu Jinyan corner the princess?
Before leaving for great Zhao, Xiao Heng meets Fang Fei. She reveals that the Princess is not actually pregnant. It is the effect of a harmless poison from Situ that helps fake pregnancy. With Consort Li’s help, Fang Fei had put it in the princess’ drink. Xiao Heng advises her to refrain from taking any impulsive decision and wait for him to return to the capital.
The princess reminisces about the time she was taken hostage by the Emperor of Dai, who tortured her and demoted her to the position of a concubine. She experienced multiple miscarriages. She starts to think that this child is a blessing from heaven, and she must protect it.
Then, the episode shows Xiao Heng getting injured while visiting the border. Meanwhile, the tension between King Cheng and the Emperor of Yan begins to grow as the King of Zhao sides with Cheng.
What happened in The Double Episode 35’s ending?
Further in the episode, Shen Yurong is informed about the princess’ pregnancy. The princess wants to marry him, but he cunningly refuses her offer. The news of the unmarried princess’ pregnancy starts to spread across the kingdom. Consort Li uses this as an opportunity to corner the princess.
Princess Wanning is desperate to give the child a legitimate father and begs Yurong to marry her. But Yurong suspects that the whole fiasco has been orchestrated by Fang Fei and Consort Li to make them admit their relationship in front of the emperor. Thus, he convinces her that only someone of her status can save her from the humiliation. So, Yurong wants Wanning to marry Li Jin and give their child his name.
