The xianxia C-drama The Legend of Shen Li has completed its run. The series released its final set of episodes on April 5, 2024. It features Lin Gengxin and Zhao Liying in the main roles.
This episode primarily focuses on Xing Zhi’s (Lin Gengxin) untimely death. Shen Li (Zhao Liying) is thrown out of the Xutian Abyss. Xing Zhi comes to her and asks her to come home with him. He is exhausted and wounded. He bleeds from his mouth and doesn’t seem to be himself. Shen Li recalls how Xing Zhi used to call out her name in the same manner when they were in the mortal realm.
Xing Zhi almost passes out from exhaustion, but Shen Li gives him a shoulder. He thinks that he has completed all his duties diligently, and it is time for him to retire. Shen Li breaks down upon hearing his words. She tells him that he should start living for himself and not as an ancient god. She tells him that there is a reason why he lived even when ancient gods ceased to exist.
Xing Zhi mentions that the only reason for him to keep living is Shen Li, as he wants to take care of her. But he is too weak to go on. Shen Li keeps asking him to keep his promise and stay with her forever. Meanwhile, the Xutian Abyss changes its color to a bright red. Xing Zhi compares himself with a bird that spits blood while crying. Shen Li tells him that Xing Zhi is the light she has been looking for all her life.
The Legend of Shen Li ep 38: Zhao Liying refuses to cremate Lin Gengxin’s body
Xing Zhi wants to see Shen Li smile for him one last time and falls down in her arms. The residents of the divine appear there to bid him farewell. The lord of the divine realm asks Shen Li to entrust him with Xing Zhi’s body, as it will harm the safety of the world if it remains in a lower realm. He says that it needs to be cremated with proper samadhi fire. But Shen Li refuses.
In episode 38 of The Legend of Shen Li, Shen Li is angry that they used Xing Zhi to protect the three realms when he was alive, but they won’t spare him even in his death. She warns that anyone who lays a finger on Xing Zhi’s body will face her wrath. Furong (He Yu) and You Lan (Jackie Li) beg their grandfather to set Xing Zhi free.
Days pass, but Shen Li remains in the same spot as Xing Zhi’s body. At last, Shen Mu Yue (Zeng Li) comes to take her home. She promises that Shen Li can always rely on her.
Meanwhile, a year goes by, and everything starts to go back to normal. Shen Li acclimates to the pain of losing Xing Zhi. She even develops a strong bond with Furong, the guy she once couldn’t stand. One day, Shen Li is informed about a snow demon that has appeared on the street.
When she goes to investigate, a white-haired Xing Zhi stands before her. Shen Li runs up to him and embraces him. The two lovers are reunited once again. The two move to the mortal realm to start a new life together.
