The ongoing thriller C-drama Frozen Surface released its ninth episode on January 16, 2024. The drama features prominent actors like Chen Jianbin, Deng Jiajia and Hu Jun. It follows the story of Captain Guan Yu (Chen Jianbin) of the Lanhe criminal police as he attempts to solve a series of murders around Lanhe. The origin of the mysteries goes way back and everything is inter-linked.
Episode nine begins with a flashback from 1990. Yang Lija is seen keeping an eye on Liu Jiangang’s house. He follows him to his home and strikes him on the head with a hammer. When someone sees him committing the crime, he hurriedly leaves the spot. The next scene shows young Wang Ping and Yan Honhqiao at their home. Honhqiao then tries to persuade her that they should lend money to Lija but Wang Ping refuses.
Meanwhile, other workers chase Lija after he commits the heinous crime. They reach a snow-covered area and continue their chase on the ice-covered Lanhe River. When they almost catch up to him, he stops. He tells them that he is going to punish himself and jumps inside a hole in the ice.
Frozen Surface Episode 9: Chen Jianbin investigates Deng Jiajia’s relation with the murders
As the mini-series approaches its finale, the storyline gets even more complicated. In the latest episode, Guan Yu arrives at the shrine where Yang Xuesong is hiding. The forensics team is investing in the place to find clues. He learns that Zhou Qi is going after Wang Shen.
The team then retrieves an empty milk bag from the scene but has no way to prove its relation with Yang Si. Guan Yu tries to figure out the production date of the milk. Moreover, he also observes the piled-up dust on the packet to figure out how long it has been lying there.
Guan Yu looks for any trace of surveillance cameras but can’t find any. He tells the forensics doctor to test the bloodstain again for any trace of DNA, as he thinks Wang Ping is somehow related to the murders of Yang Si and his son.
In the previous episode, viewers saw a mysterious woman breaking into Wang Shen’s house. In this episode, she is seen torturing him until he gives her the phone. She is even able to hide her identity from a neighbour who comes over to inspect the loud noise coming from the bathroom. After retrieving the phone, she slits Shen’s throat, steals his jewelry and leaves the place.
The police retrieve another body from the ice-covered Lanhe River. After identification, the person turns out to be Yang Xuesong. A passerby can describe the murderer. It turns out to be the same woman who killed Wang Shen.
The police released a warrant for the suspect. Mr.Xiang, Wang Ping’s associate, sees this and gets worried. He calls her after reaching home. Only to find her sitting in his living room.
