Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle Trailer Previews Anime Volleyball Movie

Crunchyroll has dropped the U.S. trailer for the highly-anticipated Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle, which serves as the latest installment to the beloved coming-of-age sports anime franchise. This comes after more than three years since the series wrapped up its 25-episode fourth season.

The video begins with a recap of Hinata and Kenma’s scenes together from Seasons 1-4, chronicling their friendship. It also features new footage from Karasuno and Nekoma’s long-awaited volleyball match at the Nationals competition. Following its Japanese premiere last February, the film will arrive in U.S. theaters on May 31, 2024.

What is Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle about?

“Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High’s volleyball club to be like his idol, a former Karasuno player known as the ‘Little Giant,'” reads the film’s synopsis. “But, Hinata soon finds that he must team up with his middle school nemesis, Tobio Kageyama. Their clashing styles turn into a surprising weapon, but can they beat their rival Nekoma High in the highly anticipated ‘Dumpster Battle,’ the long-awaited ultimate showdown between two opposing underdog teams?”

Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle is directed and written by Susumu Mitsunaka based on Haruichi Furudate’s original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series of the same name. The anime features the voices of Ayumu Marase as Hinata, Kaito Ishikawa as Kageyama, Satoshi Hino as Daichi, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Nishinoya, Yu Hayashi as Tanaka, Koki Uchiyama as Tsukushima, Miyu Irino as Sugawara, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Asahi, Soma Saito as Yamaguchi, Kaori Nazuka as Kiyoko Shimizo, and more.

Following the debut of Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle, Toho Animation is expected to release another movie. It’s currently unclear if animation studio Production I.G is planning to continue the anime series with a fifth season after the release of the final two movies. The films could potentially wrap up the anime’s story.
