Kaiju No. 8 Anime Announces Season 2 Release Window, Casts Kōki Uchiyama as Gen Narumi

On Monday, August 5, 2024, the official website of the Kaiju No. 8 anime revealed a new trailer, announcing the release window for Kaiju No. 8 season 2. Additionally, the website revealed that a new Kaiju No. 8 original episode called”Hoshina’s Day Off” is in production, along with a compilation for the anime’s first season.

Kaiju No. 8 season 2 will be released in 2025 on Crunchyroll. Kōki Uchiyama will play the role of a new character, Gen Narumi. Furthermore, the original episode and compilation film will also be released in Japanese theaters in 2025.

Crunchyroll, which streams the anime on its platform, describes Kaiju No. 8 as follows: “In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways.”

The synopsis continues, “While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.”

The first season of Kaiju No. 8 focuses on introducing the series’ central characters, including Kafka Hibino and his transformation into the very thing he hates. As per the manga, Kaiju No. 8 season 2 will cover chapter 39 onwards, animating the Kaiju Weapon Arc.

Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya directed the anime at Production I.G, while Ichiro Okouchi composed the series. Studio Khara was responsible for the Kaiju designs and artwork. Moreover, Tetsuya Nishio served as the chief animation director while handling character design.

Naoya Matsumoto launched the Kaiju No. 8 manga series in July 2020. The manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus, which further inspired a spin-off manga, an anime series in 2024, and a newly announced PC and smartphone game.
