The Strongest Magician in Demon Lord’s Army Was a Human episode 5, “Ambition,” begins with a flashback where Romberg discovers a toddler, Ike. The episode returns to the present, where Basteo declares he is the new Demon Lord after killing Dairokuten.
Basteo offers Ike to join his army, but Ike refuses, leading to a brawl between the two. Ike easily overpowers Basteo’s puppet army, but the enemy eventually corners him.
Fortunately, Cefiro, Lilith, and Jiron come to help Ike and assist in taking Basteo down. The Demon Lord reappears, proving she is not dead yet. Despite his treachery, she gives Basteo another chance by asking him to duel Ike.
Unsurprisingly, Ike wins, and the Dullahan is eventually killed. Impressed with his abilities, Dairokuten offers Ike the opportunity to serve as the commander of the Third Corps. Thinking Ike will leave her team, this saddens Cefiro, who opposes the Demon Lord’s decision.
However, Ike unmasks himself and politely rejects the offer, saying he wants to create a world where demons and humans can coexist. He says he has already created such an environment in Ivalias and insists he wants to continue supervising it under Cefiro.
