The Ossan Newbie Adventurer episode 4, “The Ossan Becomes an Adventurer,” shows the journey of Rick as he fulfills his dream of becoming an adventurer despite various challenges.
The episode begins with a young Rick reading the Legends of Yamato and dreaming about taking his place. Sadly, his dreams are crushed by his parents as they ask him to find a stable job. But a physician tells Rick he has a special marker that will manifest as a superpower.
After Rick waits for the mark to manifest for years, he eventually secures a job as a guild receptionist. His parents are happy, but watching other adventurers leaves him feeling unfulfilled.
Later, monsters crawl across town, and an S-rank adventurer, Reanette, saves him. They set a date for the following day, but monsters crash their date. Although Reanette fights the monsters, sensing a dragon nearby triggers her traumatic memories.
Thankfully, Rick’s friends arrive to rescue, but to no avail as the dragon entraps them. Though everyone loses hope, Rick does not give up. Despite being a mere receptionist, he single-handedly defeats the dragon as his mark finally manifests.
Reanette invites him to join her party, thus initiating his journey as an adventurer. In the end, Rick passes the exam, officially becoming an adventurer and fulfilling his childhood dream.
