Chainsaw Man Chapter 172 Recap & Spoilers

Chainsaw Man chapter 172 was released on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, on Shueisha’s Manga Plus and Viz Media’s official websites. The chapter was supposed to show the aftermath of Special Division 5, the group of devils, marching towards Chainsaw Man to kill him. However, little did they know Denji was already a step ahead of them, watching them from a distance.

Making up for the lack of action in the previous installments, Chainsaw Man chapter 172, “Bzzz! Boom! Chomp!” is one of the most action-packed chapters of the manga series. With Denji forced to manifest his devil form and Nayuta’s death confirmed at the sushi restaurant, there was nothing stopping the Chainsaw Man from unleashing hell on his enemies.

Chainsaw Man swiftly annihilates Special Division 5

As such, the chapter begins with Chainsaw Man targeting the Special Division 5 fiends. The fiend with the half-crocodile head senses Chainsaw Man coming from behind and jumps to dodge the attack. When Chainsaw Man attacks the fiends, he slices all of them into pieces. Amusingly, the fiend who thinks he dodged the attack also gets decapitated.

After killing the public safety officer, the chapter shows a fiend’s entrails wrapped around Chainsaw Man’s neck. However, nothing could get in the way of the protagonist’s fury, as he stands unaffected by the attack.

What happened in Chainsaw Man chapter 172?

Pochita unveils a terrifying form

Another Public Safety officer commands a separate task force, the Special Division 6, to commence operation. This entails a Centipede Devil attacking Chainsaw Man as he thuds on the ground. The giant Centipede Devil wraps its body around Chainsaw Man.

This causes the Chainsaw Man to bleed, which the Public Safety officer assuringly reports on his handheld microphone. However, soon enough Chainsaw Man chops the Centipede Devil into pieces, prompting the officer to announce the same.

The officer then asks Pill Bug to get behind him, but Chainsaw Man takes him out in a flash. With every fiend and two public safety officers taken out by Chainsaw Man, the next panel shows a terrifying scene.

The panel consists of the severed heads of all the devils the Chainsaw Man killed, contiguously attached to form a series. Moreover, Chainsaw Man is shown taking a formidable form, setting the stage for an unstoppable momentum that Pochita is ready to create in the upcoming installments.

Chainsaw Man chapter 172 ending spoilers

Chainsaw Man eats the Ear Devil, wiping out ears from existence

The Chainsaw Man proceeds to attack the Ear Devil, which is reported by a man sitting in the control room, monitoring the sight. After Chainsaw Man eats the Ear Devil, the chapter shifts to Katana Man and War Devil Yoru.

Katana Man asks Yoru for Chainsaw Man’s whereabouts, but Yoru seems in shock. She simply says, “Disappeared,” prompting Katana Man to yell and ask her to reiterate what she said. Yoru says something has disappeared and moves her hand to her ear.

As it happens, she finds out that her ears have disappeared. With Chainsaw Man annihilating the Ear Devil, humankind and the devils have lost their ears, which can be observed in the last two panels of the chapter. Neither Katana Man nor War Devil Yoru had their ears.

With Tatsuki Fujimoto’s decision to steer the story in this direction, readers took to Reddit to discuss the plot twist. While many found the incident hilarious, others wondered why Public Safety would risk wiping out ears from human existence while sending the Ear Devil to fight Chainsaw Man.

Public Safety must have targeted the greatest threat to humankind with a plan, but their anticipation was too high when they sent out the devils. It did not take much for Chainsaw Man to wipe out whoever stood in his way, including the Ear Devil.

Although readers believe the ears will be back once Chainsaw Man is done with his rampage and Pochita vomits it out, the latest development in the manga has led to heightened expectations from the upcoming issues, for it is uncertain what the mangaka has up his sleeves.
