The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible (Shinami Ossan Bōkensha) episode 4 was released on Monday, July 22, 2024 on Crunchyroll. The episode titled “The Ossan Becomes an Adventurer” sheds light on the titular protagonist’s past and the incident that turned him into an adventurer.

Rick’s dream is met with skepticism

The episode begins with Reanette remarking on how Rick seems calm while awaiting the results, even though he panicked earlier. Rick mentions he is lost in memories, prompting a flashback to a young Rick reading the Legends of Yamato.

According to the Legend, Yamato could not defeat a formidable monster, Kaiser Alsapiet. He wrote his belief in the upcoming adventurers who would eventually defeat the monster. However, when Rick expresses his desire to become an adventurer, he is met with skepticism by his parents.

His parents suggest that he pursue a decent job, shattering Rick’s dream. Later, a doctor tells him he possesses a rare marker indicating an inborn skill. However, the marker could not be triggered through training, leaving Rick with no option but to wait until it manifests.

An excited Rick decides to reiterate his wish to become an adventurer once his skill manifests. Unfortunately, years pass, but Rick’s skill does not appear. Although his friends advise him to become an adventurer in the meantime to earn money, Rick’s motive lies elsewhere – he wants to mirror Yamato.

Rick congratulates Zaid, but he reflects on his life on his way home. He realizes he has no complaints about his life with a stable job but cannot help but think where he could have been had he become an adventurer.

As Rick snaps back to reality, he notices a giant troll causing a commotion. A lady passes by, prompting Rick to shield her from the troll. As it happens, the lady is Reanette Elfelt, who swiftly kills the troll. To Rick’s surprise, she introduces herself as an S-Rank adventurer.

Rick tells her he dreams of defeating Kaiser Alsapiet and confides in her about his unrevealed inborn skill. He asks if he would make it as an adventurer if he began at 30. Reanette says it would be impossible since he lacks the required magical reserves.
