Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 1 recap

The episode begins by showing the prestigious Rigarden Academy, where magic is the only way to survive. However, Will Selfort, a boy without magic, looks to chart his course to becoming a Magia Vander and keep his promise to his childhood friend. While he can’t use magic, he makes up his credits by killing monsters in the dungeon as a swordsman.

Edward Serfens, one of the professors, calls Will out for a demonstration, knowing he can’t use magic, and embarrasses him in front of the class. Meanwhile, Theon, a noble, mocks Will and casually uses a spell to demonstrate his abilities. Edward then tells Will to drop out of the academy as it is no place for someone like him.

After class, Theon continues to bully Will, but he is saved by Colette, who appreciates Will’s Kindness. The episode then reveals the lore of the world about the Magia Vanders, the most powerful magicians, and how they liberated everyone. The episode then shows Will’s past, as he and his childhood friend, Elfaria, aim to be Magia Vanders. However, his lack of magic hindered him when she became the youngest Magia Vander.

Elsewhere, Will is reprimanded by Professor Wokner for going too far into the dungeon. The professor gave him a tip on where to find a monster for some extra credit. However, Theon overhears the conversation and tries to kill the monster first. At that moment, Theon encounters a strong monster, forcing Will to step up and save him.

Edward arrives in Wokner’s office, telling him Theon has entered the dungeon. Wokner tells his colleague not to panic due to Will’s presence. The episode then sees Edward marvel at Will’s skills but refuses to acknowledge them. Meanwhile, Will defeats the monster, embarrassing Theon at the thought of Will saving him. The episode ends with the latter receiving credit for the monster kill.
