The New Gate episode 3 aired on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 1:30 a.m. JST. The episode, titled “A Strange Request,” sees Shin partner up with Wilhelm to help save the orphanage. Moreover, the episode also showed Schnee’s current whereabouts.
The episode starts with Shin returning from the temple with an Element Tail. He asks it to form a contract with him, and it agrees; he names the fox Yuzuha. Shin then receives a message from Tiera, telling him she is able to reach Schnee. Shin arrives at the guild to report the number of Skull Faces surrounding the kingdom.
After giving the report, he heads to the mission board and sees a quest from the orphanage for a skilled successor. Intrigued by it, he accepts it. He arrives at the church and requests to see Millie. The sister remains wary of him but accepts his request. Millie embraces Shin, which makes Tria believe in his ideals. While Millie plays with Yuzuha, Shin asks Tria about the quest’s details.
Tria explains to Shin that they need the purifying spell and asks if he knows how to teach it. In exchange for the skill, he asks for information on Millie’s powers and asks the church to provide him with information. Although skeptical, Tria agrees after Millie tells her she can trust him. Tria then explains that Millie is a star composer, meaning she can see the future. Shin asks Tria if she would be learning to purify, but she refuses, telling him the former priest’s granddaughter would do it.

Later, Shin spends time with the children while waiting for the former priest’s granddaughter. The children ask him if he’ll be the one to save them from the greedy man who wants to disband the orphanage. Millie assures them that Shin will save all of them, which puts their minds at ease.
Shin then meets with sister Rashia, the granddaughter of the former priest who would be learning to purify. He goes on to ask for information on places with many undead monsters. However, their conversation is interrupted by Wilhelm, who immediately asks what they have told him. Shin responds by telling him all he has heard, which angers Wilhelm, but after learning Millie had allowed it, he calms down.
Shin tells them the only way to obtain the purifying skill is by killing 150 undead monsters while holding a prayer orb. Although Millie trusts Shin, Wilhelm still finds the information suspicious. The two go down to the diner to talk, and he asks Shin if he is chosen, as that would explain his knowledge. Shin is shocked by the question and tells him he isn’t. Wilhelm explains his reason for helping the orphanage, which makes Shin laugh.
Later, Rashia, Shin, and Wilhelm enter the forest to fight the undead monsters. Shin plans to sever the limbs with Wilhelm, while Rashia lands the final blow. Elsewhere, Lady Riona and her knights struggle to fight a skull-faced jack. However, they are saved by Schnee’s arrival, who quickly defeats the monster.
