Chainsaw Man chapter 163, “Dream Balls”, was released on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service website and mobile application. Additionally, the chapter and the manga can also be accessed on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and VIZ Media’s official website.
The chapter begins with Asa, Haruka, and others, in someplace other than the Tokyo Devil Detention Center. Later, the chapter reveals that they are all in Fami’s hideout, where they have kept Denji aka Chainsaw Man.
As Haruka surfs through various channels on television, he notices that all the news channels are reporting the scandal involving a reporter and idol, Koma Komagawa. Upon realizing that the scandal that the idol is involved in could be a baseless accusation, Nobana is relieved. In his defense, he says that he is a fan of Koma Komagawa.
However, Haruka is quick to notice that none of these news channels bother to report people turning into monsters and wars breaking out. Moreover, he mocks the news channels saying that all they bother about is a celebrity cheating scandal, even though a bunch of young terrorists have broken out of prison.
Subsequently, Haruka adds that he feels like all of this is a dream, only for Asa to agree with him and express that she, too, feels like she is dreaming. This is so because she had a short-lived fame, but no one remembers her anymore. Moreover, she lost an arm.
All of this makes her feel like she is dreaming. Additionally, Asa expresses how the fact that Denji is Chainsaw Man feels like a dream, too. Lighting the mood, Nail Fiend comments on an asleep Denji, calling him “cute” as he sleeps.
Chainsaw Man chapter 163: Denji shows concern for Asa’s lost arm
The chapter then reveals that all of them are hiding in Fami’s hideout, with Fami messily eating pasta. In the middle of their conversation, Denji suddenly wakes up. The first question he asks as he regains consciousness is where Asa’s arm is. He also asks where he is.
Naturally, this takes everyone by surprise, and Denji, once again, inquires Asa where her arm was. To this, Asa replies that his friend cut it off. Denji asks why that was, but Asa responds that she didn’t know. Suddenly, Denji wonders if he is dreaming only for Katana Man to come out of the shower and kick Denji in his groin.
With Denji seething in pain, he quickly realizes that he was not dreaming. Katana Man asks the protagonist to transform into Chainsaw Man and for their fight to continue. Fortunately for Denji, Asa and Haruka chime in and remind Katana Man that they need to show some respect to Chainsaw Man.
However, right when they interrupt Katana Man’s indiscretion, War Devil Yoru takes over Asa’s body and kicks Denji a second time in his groin. Moreover, she asks him to transform because she has no appeal for his human form.
Once again, this leaves Denji in pain and Nobana and Haruka collectively express that they don’t feel safe with these people. However, as the chapter comes to an end, Haruka worries that they have nowhere else to go but to remain with them.
