The New Gate episode 2 aired on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:30 a.m. JST. The episode, titled “Little Buddy,” sees the Belricht Kingdom in peril over the monsters appearing. Moreover, the episode shows Shin receiving a quest from a little girl.
The episode starts with Lady Rione and her escorts trying to figure out the sword’s origins. She then tasks the knights with finding an appraiser and who launched it. Elsewhere, Shin arrives and sees a crowd gathering in the center of town. He asks one of the knights what happened to the injured men. The knight tells him about the skull-faced attacks and the events caused by the sword that entered the castle.
Shin arrives at the adventurer’s guild and submits the core for the skull-faced jack he defeated. He informs Celica about the monster’s level, which leaves her in complete shock. Celica then introduces Shin to Elm, one of the guild’s officials, and appraises the core. However, Shin asks them to keep his identity a secret to avoid drama.
Later that night, he goes for dinner, where he runs into Wilhelm the Vampire, one of the top adventurers in the kingdom. Wilhelm introduces himself to Shin and explains the meaning behind his nickname. The next day, Shin gathers information about the world in the library.
Meanwhile, various officials, including the guild leader, attend a special council meeting at the guild. They discuss the skull-faced jack that Shin defeated, and most are shocked that he didn’t pick up the monster’s equipment. The knight captain asks for Shin’s identity and reveals that the sword that flew into the castle is a legendary item comparable to the kingdom’s royal sword.

Elsewhere, Shin sits by the fountain for lunch while a little girl stares at him. He invites her to try some, which she accepts wholeheartedly. Wilhelm then appears to pick the girl up, explaining she is one of the children from the orphanage. However, before leaving, the girl begs Shin to save the fox trapped in the northern forest.
Later that night, Shin thinks about the mission. Having nothing better to do, he decides to go. The following day, he arrives at the moon sanctum and gives Tiera Schnee’s weapon. Shin also gives her a set of magic envelopes that are used to send long-distance messages to help him contact Schnee.
He sets off into the northern woods and encounters a strange barrier that attacks people mentally. However, due to his absurdly high level, this has no effect. Shin arrives at the shrine, the heart of the barrier, and shatters it. He enters the shrine and sees a little fox that has been cursed and poisoned.
He is able to heal it, but they are interrupted by a wave of undead. Shin defeats the undead, but the growing miasma affects the shrine’s guardians, causing them to attack. With the help of the fox, he defeats the monsters. He discovers the fox is a top-tier monster called Elementail and is happy to have it. The episode ends with Schnee receiving word of Shin’s arrival from Tiera.
