Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 2 aired on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 1:30 a.m. JST. While TV Tokyo broadcasted the episode in Japan, it is available for streaming on Crunchyroll as well as on Netflix. Following the deal that Holo, the wise wolf, made with Kraft Lawrence, the skilled merchant, in the debut episode, they seem to be working well as a team.
Episode 2, titled ‘The Mischievous Wolf and a Joke in Poor Taste,’ sheds light on how Holo and Lawrence, despite hailing from entirely separate worlds, work well together as partners. Once the episode is set into motion, the duo is mostly seen bantering while gushing over Holo’s charming tail and peculiar ears. She informs Lawrence that she can sniff lies with her powerful nose.
Soon, to save themselves from the rain, they take refuge in a hotel, where Lawrence introduces Holo as his wife with a burn on her face. Hence, this allows the duo to hide Holo’s face from everyone. Inside the hotel, Holo reveals that the wheat will not whither as long as she is alive. However, if it is eaten or mixed with soil, Holo will disappear.
Holo playfully sniffs Lawrence and tells him that he is a handsome man. But, to Lawrence’s annoyance, she tells him she likes longer beards. Agreeing that they should go near the fireplace to dry out their clothes, the two move to the common room.

While heading towards the common room, Lawrence warns Holo to stay hidden, to which Holo reassures him that she is the wise wolf and that he can relax. However, she says she would never hide her face due to a burn. Instead, she would consider it comparable to her ears, which she is proud of.
Later, Lawrence makes acquaintances with two strange men, and they chatter about business-related things. One of them in particular, Zheren, introduces himself as a rookie merchant and tries to cross Holo’s boundaries by requesting a peek at her face.
However, Holo, using her witty remarks, stops him from doing so. Zheren then strikes a deal with Lawrence, baffling the latter. Back in the room, after Lawrence and Holo gobble up potatoes covered in goat cheese, the former asks the wise wolf if she could figure out whether Zheren was lying to them.
Holo proudly reiterates that she can detect lies most of the time. She reveals that she could sense a lie in the economic trade that Zheren proposed to Lawrence. However, she knows that Lawrence would pretend to be in with the deal whether or not Holo is around, or irrespective of what she thinks.

The following morning, Holo explains how the church has become more prevalent since she last remembered it. After a sweet exchange of dialogues between the two, Lawrence, as per his strategy, pretends to accept Zheren’s offer.
Zheren asks Lawrence to meet him in Pazzio, where they can sign their contract. Later, Holo talks about wolves and paints a gory picture of how they attack humans. This thought disturbs Lawrence, and he discloses that wolves had attacked him eight times before he met Holo.
However, once Holo notices Lawrence’s discomfort and frustration, she apologizes for rambling about wolves. Additionally, she explains how dogs and wolves are different, and the former is closer to humans.
Soon, they settle the tension between them, and the episode ends with Holo’s remark about how the two of them belong to completely different worlds.
