Ninja Kamui episode 5, titled “It’s A Trap!”, was aired on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Adult Swim broadcast the episode in the U.S. and Canada. For other fans, as always, it was available on HBO Max the following day. Among other mysterious events in the episode, Higan’s benefactor and Emma Samanda’s true identity remain the most intriguing.
While the previous four episodes set up the story, the latest episode added an enigmatic air to the plot. The installment begins where the previous episode left off – Higan and Zai come face-to-face, and Higan informs his former ally of Mari’s death.
As expected, the encounter is anything but poignant as Zai threatens Higan of the latter’s looming death and walks away. At the same time, Emma leads Morris to the hideout of an ex-Auza employee. Though Emma could not be there in person, she gives insights into the Auza researcher and asks Morris to contact her only in case of emergencies.
Soon, Morris barges into the hiding spot of the former employee, Jason Cardenas, catching him off-guard. Right then, the scene jumps to Yamaji and his recruits deciding to let Higan infiltrate the Auza base so that they could catch him unarmed and kill him. Though Higan’s benefactor warns him that this is a trap, the protagonist seems adamant about going forward and killing Yamaji.
Ninja Kamui episode 5 spoilers: Morris seeks a former Auza Employee’s help
Morris informs Jason Cardenas that he needs help with his investigation. Soon, the FBI agent discovers Jason’s server room where he works and hacks into Auza’s records. Elsewhere, Yamaji and others watch out for Higan as he moves through Auza’s base.
Jason then vents to Morris about how Auza mistreated and wrongfully fired him. Hence, the hacker aims at disclosing Auza’s secrets to the world as revenge. Morris sees this as a perfect opportunity to have Jason hack into Auza’s system while Higan fights the corporate ninjas.
When Jason hacks into the company’s internal server, Morris discovers Emma Samanda, his FBI partner’s name on the list. As Morris tries to process what he just saw, Auza mercenaries find them out. With the mercenaries trailing the duo, Morris tries to call Emma but in vain.
Meanwhile, Higan watches Yamaji through the window and gets worked up. As he restlessly heads to attack the evil ninja boss, his recruits attack Higan. In a stunningly choreographed action scene, Higan fights the corporate ninjas, but they succeed in injuring him severely.
Ninja Kamui episode 5 ending: Who saved Higan?
Towards the end, when Zai is about to kill Higan as the latter accepts his fate, a pink-armored cyborg, who could also possibly be a ninja, saves Higan. Though the episode does not reveal the rescuer’s identity, fans speculate quite a few names.
While it is possible that it could be Emma Samanda, whose name on Auza’s internal server list caught Morris off-guard, it could also be one of Yamaji’s recruits, possibly the masked woman named Aska whom viewers previously saw at the roundtable. At the same time, it could be the benefactor who helped Higan on the phone. Conversely, it could also be Mari, Higan’s wife, who was presumably killed in the first episode.
Since Ninja Kamui is an original anime, one cannot help but speculate on the rescuer’s identity, which might only be revealed in the upcoming episode.
