The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling has continued to make waves week in and week out, riding on the coattails of the manhwa’s success. Fans of the series have found Sung Jinwoo’s adventures to be full of excitement and intrigue. The manhwa is written by Chungong and illustrated by Gee So-Lyung and Redice Studio.
The main storyline of Solo Leveling focuses on Sung Jinwoo’s journey from becoming the weakest hunter to the strongest in the lot. Throughout his career, Jinwoo crosses paths with numerous talented individuals, some of whom later become his allies. While he engages in several unforgettable battles, certain adversaries of Jinwoo leave a lasting impact on the overarching plot.
Yet, there are other prominent characters who never had the chance to engage in epic fight sequences with the protagonist. This list explores some of the most notable characters whom Jinwoo never faced in battle.
Woo Jinchul
Woo Jinchul is a Korean A-rank hunter who became the new Chairman of the Hunters Association after Go Gun-Hee’s death. Prior to that, he was the Chief Inspector of the Surveillance Team under the Korean Hunters Association. He was also the first to suspect Jinwoo of undergoing a double awakening. Despite being an A-rank hunter, he was strong enough to stop Baek Yoonho and Hwang Dongsoo.
Choi Jong-In
Choi Jong-in, an S-rank hunter renowned for his expertise in fire magic, serves as the Chairman of the Hunter’s Guild. Initially dubbed “The Ultimate Soldier” for his unmatched prowess, he questions this title after encountering Jinwoo, who effortlessly clears A-rank dungeons solo. Despite this, Choi Jong-in’s mastery of fire magic remains unparalleled, granting him a significant advantage over most hunters.
Liu Zhigang
Liu Zhigang, acclaimed as “The Hero of China,” is one of the foremost hunters in the country. He holds the esteemed rank of one of the five National Level Hunters and is globally ranked second. Driven by an earnest desire for combat against formidable adversaries, he lamented his inability to confront the Ant King, the boss in the Jeju island arc. Subsequently unveiled as a vessel for a ruler, he derives authority and manifestation from this revelation.
Go Gun-Hee
Chairman of the Korean Hunters Association, Go Gun-Hee commands deep respect from Jinwoo. Despite advancing age, he remains among Korea’s most formidable hunters. Revealed as the Brightest Fragment of Brilliant Light, he rises to the position of the second strongest hunter after Jinwoo. However, the constraints of old age limit his prowess, preventing him from unleashing his full potential. Even after his death, Go Gun-Hee is revered by Go Gun-Hee, who promises to avenge him.
Ashborn
Ashborn was the King of the Dead and the original Monarch of Shadows. He is also the most powerful ruler and the Greatest Fragment of Brilliant Light. After following the rest of the monarchs for centuries, he requests help from the architect to find a suitable vessel. He is known to be the strongest Monarch, but he is only considered second to Antares. After Rakan kills Jinwoo during an important battle, the latter meets Ashborn. This is followed by Rakan passing down to him his knowledge and possession of the army.
The world of Solo Leveling is enriched by a diverse cast of such characters. Each contributes uniquely to the plot’s depth. While Jinwoo’s journey remains central, the presence of these formidable figures adds complexity, alliances, and rivalries that enhance the entire narrative.
