Kohei Horikoshi has consistently given fans some of the best moments in My Hero Academia. Recently, as the fight between Deku and Shigaraki intensified, neither side seemed to show any sign of giving up. At this point, Deku resorted to a dangerous plan to give him an edge in the fight.
Meanwhile, Kudo came up with a plan to take down AFO from the inside, but the plan would have only worked if Deku passed on OFA to Shigaraki. As expected, the recent developments shocked the fandom since the idea of Deku giving up his Quirk seemed unbelievable.
My Hero Academia: Why did Deku give Shigaraki GearShift?
With the fight between Deku and Shigaraki reaching its climax, the heroes needed a clear plan to give them an advantage. Kudo, the second user of OFA, noticed the wound Shigaraki obtained from his fight with Star and Stripes. He then proposed a plan to transfer OFA to Shigaraki so that it could take down AFO from the inside.
Deku expressed his doubts about the plan, as transferring GearShift to Shigaraki would make him unable to keep up with him. Shigaraki’s wound was not by any means in an easy place to reach, which meant Deku would need to surprise his opponent and transfer the Quirk within seconds. Deku tried to pass it on to Shigaraki by infusing his blood with Blackwhip, but the plan failed because Shigararki had the Danger Sense.
However, Deku was able to outwit Danger Sense using a Smokescreen and Gran Torino’s cape to land a punch. This caught Shigaraki off guard as Deku passed on Gear Shift to Shigaraki after a sorrowful goodbye. Following this, Kudo inflicted damage on Shigaraki from the inside as Deku and Shigaraki’s memories merged.
Now that Kudo successfully damaged Shigaraki from the inside, Deku must prepare to finally transfer more Quirks into Shigaraki to bring him down.
