Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name Novel Gets Audiobook Adaptation

Makoto Shinkai’s critically acclaimed novel and film Your Name is getting an audiobook adaptation by Yen Audio. The audiobook will give fans an immersive experience, transporting them to Shinkai’s beautifully crafted world. Fans wishing to read the light novel but not having the chance to do so can use this adaptation to familiarize themselves with the story of Mitsuha and Taki.

Yen Audio from Yen Press has revealed that it will release the audiobook in July 2024. Although there is no news on the voice cast for the audiobook yet, the same should be announced shortly.

Describing the plot, Yen Press writes, “Mitsuha, a high school girl living in a small town in the mountains, has a dream that she’s a boy living in Tokyo. Taki, a high school boy in Tokyo, dreams he’s a girl living in a quaint little mountain town. Sharing bodies, relationships, and lives, the two become inextricably linked—but are any connections truly inseverable in the grand tapestry of fate?”

The synopsis continues, “Written by director Makoto Shinkai during the production of the film by the same title, your name. is in turns funny, heartwarming, and heart-wrenching as it follows the struggles of two young people determined to hold on to each other.”

Your Name anime film first premiered in August 2016, following its light novel publication in June 2016. Yen Press then handled the English translation and adaptation in May 2017. Since its debut, the title has broken records worldwide while captivating readers and anime fans.

Interestingly, the anime film is getting a live-action adaptation, an announcement that naturally raises expectations within the fandom. Mexican-American filmmaker Carlos López Estrada is directing the live-action film. His extraordinary work in the past, including Raya and the Last Dragon, promises to add a beautiful touch to the story.
