A new official Kinnikuman Twitter account has revealed that the anime will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a new anime series.
The anime first debuted in April of 1983 and proved to be a massive hit. Further details about the new series, including episode count, are scarce, but the account released a piece of key art to celebrate the announcement, as well as a link to the series’ official website. The art shows Kinnikuman from the back, posing with his arm in the air.

First published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in 1979, Kinnikuman is one of Japan’s best-selling manga series and was created by Yudetamago. It follows the titular superhero wrestler as he battles in various competitions against villainous Chojin. The small rubber toys that came from the franchise would make their to North America under the name of M.U.S.C.L.E. in the ’80s. The sequel series, Kinnikuman Nisei – Second Generations, would be localized as Ultimate Muscle overseas.
