Makima tells Denji she needs an obedient dog. Denji gets slightly annoyed since heās being treated like a dog. However, he also likes her because sheās nice to him. While getting breakfast, Denji loses balance due to loss of blood. Makima asks what happened to him, and she confirms itās not a common occurrence. She says Denji has the scent of both a human and a devil. While eating, Denji asks Makima if she has a type. She says she likes the Denji type, which makes him happy.
Makima introduces Denji to Aki. While on patrol, the two get into a fight. Aki tells Denji he should quit the job, especially if heās just after Makima. Denji says he doesnāt care if being a Devil Hunter kills him as long as he gets to experience the good things in life. They return to Makimaās office, and she says Denji will be joining Akiās experimental unit. Aki learns that Denjiās a human who can turn into a devil. On their walk, Denji asks Aki if Makimaās a bad person. Aki tells him she saved his life.
While on the job, Aki decides to test Denjiās skills against a Fiend. However, Denji didnāt use his devil powers. Aki reminds him he shouldnāt be empathetic with devils. Although, Denji says he would be friends with a devil if possible since he doesnāt have any friends. After Aki leaves to talk to the police officers, it turns out Denji was trying to avoid getting blood on a pile of dirty magazines. Denji tries to find motivation, and he settles with touching a girlās chest. Makima then assigns a partner to Denji, a Fiend named Power. While on patrol, Power starts running to the area where she smells blood. After jumping off a building, she smashes the Sea Cucumber Devil with her hammer.
