Blue Lock Episode 1 Recap
It’s Ichinan vs. Matsukaze Koukou in the Saitama Prefecture Finals. During the game, Isagi decides to pass the ball to his teammate rather than score the goal himself. His teammate misses, giving Kira a chance to score. Matsukaze Koukou wins and advances to the next tournament. Meanwhile, Ichinan mourns their loss. On his way home, Isagi wonders if things would be different if he decided to score the goal. At home, Isagi receives an invitation letter from the Japan Football Union.
Isagi bumps into Kira before entering the building. Upon arriving, they find themselves part of the 300 selected strikers invited to participate in the Blue Lock training program. Shortly after, Jinpachi Ego appears and introduces himself. He explains that Japan needs a revolutionary striker to win the World Cup. Many players refuse to participate, including Kira. Jinpachi shares his opinion on how Japanese soccer lacks ego.
Isagi is convinced, and many decide to go to Blue Lock. Kira and Isagi are grouped in the same room. They meet another boy, Igarashi, who doesn’t want to take over his family’s temple. Jinpachi appears on a screen and explains the rankings and mechanics of the first trial. The top five will have the chance to play at the U-20 World Cup. Meanwhile, the ones who lose Blue Lock are banned from playing for Japan.
The first trial, a game of tag, begins with Igarashi. Eventually, the ball ends up hitting Isagi. He starts panicking because he doesn’t want his soccer career to end. He decides to go for someone stronger than him — otherwise, he won’t grow as a player. At the last moment, Isagi hits Kira with the ball.
