Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 and anime rejoice! Netflix has released the opening credits for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the 2077 spinoff that tells a side story about a street kid named David Martinez trying to make it big in Night City. At Anime Expo, creators Studio Trigger announced that Zach Aguilar would star as David when Edgerunners debuted in September. At the same time, Netflix uploaded the opening to the show, a striking visual composition backed by Franz Ferdinand’s “This Fire.”

Edgerunners is a 10-episode anime set in the world of 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077. You may know Studio Trigger from their work on Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. Outside of the intro, the series’ music will be composed by Akira Yamaoka, best known for his work on the Silent Hill series of video games.
Outside of the setting, Edgerunners will have no known connection to the plot of the original video game, although references of some nature are likely. CD Projekt Red’s techno future open world was mired in technical issues upon its launch in 2020. However, a February refresh and a release on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 have fixed some of those problems.

Edgerunners is one of several video game anime that continue to top the charts for Netflix and a continuation of a relationship between the streaming service and CD Projekt Red. Their past collaboration, the live-action adaptation of The Witcher, brought new people into the franchise and made waves online with its meme-able music and memorable moments.
