In a recent interview with magazine Nikkei Entertainment, executive producer Akio Iyoku spoke about the upcoming film, and dove into the role that the Red Ribbon Army will play. While revealed in the initial trailer for the film, Ikoyu noted that the movie will show off the “army” side of the Red Ribbon Army more. According to translations made by fans on social media, Ikoyu noted that the group will be more “scheme-y” and will be more of a comical type of villain rather than a group that will present any true opposition to the heroes.

Ikoyu went on to say that Magenta and Carmine — two members of the Red Ribbon Army — will be “key” to the first half of the movie due to their villainous plans. Gamma #1 and Gamma #2, two of the bigger villains in the film and also members of the Red Ribbon Army, were also discussed, with Ikoyu revealing that CGI will be used to help showcase the “inhuman speed and fighting style” of the two against Gohan.

This marks the second movie for Dragon Ball Super, which is the highly successful sequel series to Dragon Ball Z. The first film was Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which was directed by Tatsuya Nagamine and also written by Akira Toriyama. The movie takes place after the events of the Universe Survival Saga and features Goku and Vegeta taking on Broly.
